I apologise for the grainy image- in these days of megapixels, this snapshot from my webcam is a total squib..but bear with me.

The picture is a recent ad of Mitsubushi Pajero, an SUV which has captured the hearts and wallets of many a self proclaimed adventure lover world over. I came across this in the July edition of Jetwings. By the way, uncalled for digression, but Jetwings is the best in flight magazine I have laid my eyes upon. Replete with colorful images and interesting accounts of various tourist hot spots in the country. A travellers delight, surely. And probably one of the few departments where Jet scores over rival Kingfisher.

Yeah, so getting back to SUV's, these adverts are really corny. This picture shows a lion uncertainly eying two porcupines in a desert. Cathcline being..'If you were there, you could see it'. And inset at the bottom of the ad is a picture of the Pajero. Come on ! How does having an SUV have anything to do with you evening the odds of seeing a lion and a couple of porcupines at arms length from you ! I mean...look at the average consumer..what a faraway dream that you are trying to sell to him ! THe other day there was this full page ad of the Ford Endevour, on an ice covered floor with spikes of ice shooting up (stlalagmites eh ?). With the Ford Endevour nestled in between. My goodness, you expect someone to fall for that !

The maximum rough terrain the city dwellers vehicle would face might be the potholes of some non descript road...no slippery thin sheet of ice or trecherous pond of slush or shape changing dunes of desert sands....ha..
