BOOK REVIEW : Argumentative Indian

Coming as it does a day after the world cup final, you would expect this blog to be bursting at its seams with pitiful words for France, and also my cleverness at choosing to support France right from the start of the tournament, but I shall refrain from such ostentatiousness and restrict my comments to Amartya Sen's recent book.

ARGUMENTATIVE INDIAN - Amartya Sen

3 stars...

This book, a bit of a tome, is a collection of 20 essays about India- the problems plauging us today, as a country, and how it helps to delve into the past to look for solutions. Some of the essays, especially the one about sex ratio and secularism, are very incisive and interesting. However, a good number of them are of plain academic interest and have a PhD dissertation like feel to them and are not meant for the casual reader like me.

Comments:
