Les Blues blew away favorites Brazil !

Here's my ode to the great match, a crossword clue, who's answer follows in the end of the writing...

Shortening and mixing Brazil and France causing regurgitation (4)
GRIPPING ENCOUNTER ! However, gripping not in a way one would have expected. For a game boasting the names af Zidane, Henry, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo in the starting line ups, one would expect a generous doseof attacking football at a breathtaking pace. This was not to be, however, as France dictated the pace of the game in all but the final quarter of the match- a steady and measured pace, not the frentic hurry which one sees when the brazilian wizards are working their magic. For the blues, Zidane was imperious in the midfield, and Henry caused problems to Cafu and co. playing at a clip faster than the Brazilian defence. The goal was a clinical piece of work from the industrious french, and it was only fair in the scheme of things that it came for the French.
Brazil bid a teary farewell to the stage in which they were suppossed to be hogging the limelight according to the popular script before june 9th. They never really got going, did they ?? Ronaldinho and his trademark skills and rasping shots and pinpoint passing, Adriano's power, Kaka's creativity, they never really came to the party when it mattered. One could see flashes of the true magnificence of Brazilian football in the last 20 minutes, when they were compelled to come out attacking, but the French defence was too experienced and the clock was running down too fast.
Perfect script for those who said at the start of the tournament itself that brazil was too good to be true. I feel Brazil was a renegade roadster and France was a well tuned sedan...but what match is a svelte Corvette in 2nd gear for a pragmatic Accord in 5th gear ??
Answer: barf (bra and fra mix)
